ACReSAL TECHNICAL LEARNING MISSION IN ADAMAWA: A TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCE!
For over the past three days (starting 15th March, 2025), Adamawa State played host to a high-impact Technical Learning Mission on Regenerative Agriculture, bringing together key stakeholders from the World Bank, the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), ACReSAL teams from 19 northern states and the FCT, Adamawa SPMU, focal NGOs, and community representatives.
Day 1:
Participants visited the Landscape Management & Farming Skills Acquisition Centre in Girei, where they engaged in practical demonstrations on regenerative agriculture, soil conservation, and climate-resilient farming techniques. The Honourable Commissioner of Environment, Mohammed Sadiq, emphasized the state’s commitment to sustainable land management while appreciating the forthcoming delivery of critical equipment, including a water rig, tractors, an amphibious swamp buggy, and water tankers.
Day 2:
Presentation of $25,000 cheques to 21 communities across Adamawa State as part of the first phase of the Community Revolving Funds scheme. The cheques were presented by His Excellency, the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, alongside the Honourable Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Abdullahi Sahabi Aliyu.
The learning continued with in-depth practical sessions on land restoration strategies, agroforestry, and sustainable farming practices.
Day 3:
The mission extended to Mbula community in Demsa LGA, where stakeholders engaged with community members of the 6,000-hectare Dwam Irrigation Project. The day’s activities featured:
– A courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Hama Bata, Gladstone
Teneke
– Presentations on the Catchment Management Plan for the
intervention
– Peace-building discussions and dramatization to foster unity
– Unveiling of the irrigation system design by consultants
– Attendance by Honourable Commissioners of Environment,
Agriculture, Water Resources, Culture & Tourism, Women
Affairs, Justice, and Commerce, Trade & Industry
– Cultural displays, traditional dances, and horse parades
showcasing the rich heritage of the Mbula people
In addition to the practical learning sessions on constructing micro water harvesting structures on degraded landscapes, this mission reinforced Adamawa’s commitment to sustainable land and water management, strengthened partnerships, and provided crucial financial support to communities through the Community Revolving Funds scheme.
