The awards were given at a Stakeholders’ Engagement of Federal and states Steering/Technical Committees which held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of Abuja Continental Hotel.
Adamawa’s afforestation drive and innovative approach to Project Implementation, the unflinching support and buy in by the State Government which was demonstrated by the presence of the three focal commissioners of Environment, Agriculture and Water Resources, are part of the indices that have put the state way ahead of other states in the project for the year 2023.

Speaking shortly after the awards the State Project Coordinator Dr Ibrahim Chinda said the credit goes to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his foresight, support to the project and concern for the environment.
“Adamawa ACReSAL wouldn’t have raked in these awards if our state governor didn’t give us the kind of support He is giving. As you know, Governor Fintiri takes the issue of the environment very seriously and that’s why he has given us to support to carry out the activities we are carrying out. If you recall, he gave us the permission land support to regenerate the degraded government forest reserves. He has been also so supportive by keying into our Agroforestry drive by ensuring we take over and turn around the Farming Skills Acquisition Centres all across the state. We are optimistic that with his support, we will always make him proud by doubling our efforts.”
He extended his appreciation to the honourable Commissioner for Environment Mohammed Sadiq, Commissioner for Agriculture Prof David Jatau and the Commissioner for Water Resources Audit Ayuba Tanko for ensuring the Ministries play their roles to support the project exceptionally and being present for project activities despite their busy schedules.
Adamawa ACReSAL garnered 13 awards including the best in project Implementation Progress, Land Reclamation via Afforestation, Support to Beneficiaries, Community-Driven Activities and the award for the best in Innovation. Other award categories where the state came in the top three are transparency and integrity, Communications, Disbursement, Monitoring and Evaluation Oversight, Political Will and Staff Welfare.
The event was last in the series of events that characterized the last mission for the year 2023 and was graced by the honourable Minister for Environment Balarabe Abbas, Federal Permanent Secretaries and Commissioners from the Focal Ministries in each of the 19 States and the FCT, the World Bank Team headed by the ACReSAL Task Team Leader Dr Joy Iganya Agene, ACReSAL, the Federal Project Management Team led National Project Coordinator Abdulhamid Umar and various stakeholders.
